A dream that didn't seem like my own

Hello, I'm new to this community and I thought perhaps I could get some insight to my latest nightmare.

I have alot of strange dreams, at least 3-4 a month (that I can remember). Sometimes they are silly and amusing, sometimes they are a little more sinister, but still amusing - like having my house invaded by zombies.

Every so often, I have a dream that is really out of whack. A dream that doesn't seem like a dream that I could make up. Like it comes from somewhere else altogether. Last night I had a nightmare like this.

I was in a park and I came upon a a crowd of people and plainclothes policeman. There was a woman on the ground and she was covered in blood. She was dying. She was wearing short black bike pants and someone had cut both her legs off halfway up the thighs. She only looked to be 17 or 19 years old. She was slim but not skinny, she had long brown hair tied back in a pony tail. She didn't look like me or anyone I knew.

The dream scene changed but no matter how different the next dream was I somehow always ended up back at the park, looking at her, horrified. The third time I got there I woke up.

I just felt helpless, as if the girl had been real and I should have been able to help her some way. As if the dream were a premonition and I should stop it from happening. Or I should catch the person that did it to her. I couldn't believe it was just a dream. How could something like that come out of my head? I know what my dreams are like and that wasn't a dream of mine. It was so real and detailed and awful.

I was very tired and started falling asleep again, but I could feel my mind going right back to her and I knew I was going to dream about her again. So I got up at 3.30 this morning.

What are your thoughts, if any?
